Art Director

The Art Director will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, the Creative Director, and the Editorial team to craft the look and feel of all three publications: V Magazine (6/year), VMAN Magazine (4/year), and Visionaire’s limited-edition books (3/year). You will manage the design team and liaise with the production person and editorial team to ensure the timely release of each publication. The Art Director must be motivated, a team player, and manage schedules well.

The Art Director will oversee the image production process working closely with the photo department ensuring that all post-production work is completed by deadline and working with the design team to implement the publications’ clean, modern aesthetic. He/she will travel for press checks when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the conceptualization and design of the publications under the E-C and CD
  • Design and create mock-ups for editorial presentations
  • Ensure all design elements adhere to design quality and standards
  • Oversee art/edit workflow in planning and production phases
  • Work closely with production manager and editorial team
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Manage design team workflow
EXPERIENCE:
  • Professional experience art directing magazines and managing a design team
  • Expert skill in the use of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must be current on design/production/printing trends
SKILLS:
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Quark XPress, and Adobe Acrobat; and knowledge of electronic file management including creating
  • HTML email campaigns required.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
OTHER: Must be an initiator with strong organizational, planning and interpersonal skills and ability to produce under deadlines/pressure with attention to detail.
